Periha canister filters come equipped with multiple high-capacity media baskets, allowing you to fully customize your mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration stages. Beyond the included pads, here are simple, highly effective ways to optimize your filter baskets:
Water is pulled from your aquarium down through the intake hose into the sealed canister. It gets pushed upward through multiple media baskets (passing through mechanical, chemical, and biological layers) before the purified water is pumped back into your tank.
Fill the canister main body about 80% full with aquarium water, secure the motor head latches, open the quick-release valve levers, and plug the unit in. The EA self-priming motor automatically purges trapped air and establishes the siphon loop.
Rinse mechanical sponges and biological media in bucketed aquarium water (never tap water) every 4 to 6 weeks to preserve beneficial bacteria. Replace chemical media like activated carbon every 3 to 4 weeks.
