Frequently asked questions

How does the ef canister filter work?

Water is drawn down through the intake hose into the bottom of the sealed canister. It travels upward through the multi-stage media baskets (passing sequentially through your mechanical, biological, and chemical media layers) before the quiet pump motor pushes the purified water back into your aquarium.
How does the priming function work during initial setup?

The top of the filter head features an integrated manual primer button. To start the filter, leave the unit unplugged, open the hose valves, and press down firmly on the primer button a few times. This physically pumps trapped air out of the canister and pulls water down from the tank to automatically establish the siphon. Once the canister fills with water, simply plug it in to start filtering.
How often should I clean the filter and replace media?

Rinse mechanical sponges and biological media in bucketed aquarium water (never tap water) every 4 to 6 weeks to preserve beneficial bacteria. Replace chemical media like activated carbon every 3 to 4 weeks.
